Adoption Scheme

This Scheme allows us to continue our work of rescuing horses, ponies and donkeys from neglect and cruelty as well as enabling us to provide a home for them for the rest of their lives.

If you would like to help you can adopt one or more of our animals for just £3.00 per animal. You will receive a certificate showing your name and a picture of your adopted animal, which is valid for one year. They make great Birthday and Christmas presents. If you would like to adopt one of our animals please complete the adoption form. Many of our supporters like to adopt a different animal each year. If your adoption has expired and you wish to renew it, please send a minimum of £3.00 for each certificate and tick the renew column. Further renewal forms are available on request.

BurgundyBurgundy

Burgundy is new to the Adoption Scheme. He was retired early from the Army in February 2006. He had spent six years serving in the cavalry, being used for parade work and a s competition horse, but his career was cut short by a lameness problem. He has settled down to the gentler pace of life at Bransby.

CleoCleo

Born in 1996 she came to the home in 2001 as a group of 10 donkeys by request of the RSPCA. She is a very sweet donkey that loves lots of cuddles and attention. She arrived with very overgrown feet that resulted in her having a deformed front foot, which requires regular veterinary and farrier attention.

News Update

Cleo continues to see the farrier regularly. The remedial work is making her feel more comfortable and enabling her to get around more easily.

Digit

Digit is new to the Adoption Scheme. He came to us in April 2006, after he had been in a stable fire. Digit had been tied in the stable and his bedding had been deliberately set alight. He had burns to his legs and underbelly, as well as his mane, tail and eyelashes being singed. He has been left with some scars, but has fully recovered. Despite his ordeal he hasn’t lost his trust in humans and is always up for a cuddle.

Dylan

Was born at the Home in 1981. He is a very handsome light grey donkey with a dark brown cross. He is very mischievous and is always looking for “fun!” He can always be found with his girlfriend Gemma and gets very distressed if he can't find her. He loves human company and can often be seen leading his groom Helen round the field.

News Update

Dylan is still leader of the gang, he is known to get himself and some of the others into scraps, but is always saved by Helen, their groom. He enjoyed playing patient on the Donkey Training day, when he was used to demonstrate foot bandaging.

Ebony Ebony

Is a black female mule that came to us in 2000 at the request of the Police as she was found wandering on a busy road. She suffers from laminitis and sweet itch. She is very cheeky and is always up to something which has earned her the name “Beryl the Peril”

News Update

Ebony has missed the visitors this year. She joined Moab and Digit in the laminitis paddock for the summer, but has rejoined the main donkey herd for the winter and could still be seen sunbathing despite the cold temperatures.

Henry

Henry is new to the Adoption Scheme. He retired from Bradford Industrial Museum in June 2007. He came to Bransby to join his long-time workmate and friend Norman. He suffers from itchy legs, so they have to be clipped and treated regularly. Henry and Norman are never far away from each other and can often be seen enjoying a mutual grooming session.

Lizzie

Came to the home in 1991 at the request of the RSPCA, she was very thin on arrival and had to undergo very intensive rehabilitation. She is a bay mare with a black mane and tail. She doesn't live up to her name of “Skinny Lizzie” anymore.

News Update

Lizzie was joined by Bonnie this year and they have become firm friends. Bonnie needs to be undercover but not stabled, so Lizzie has been living with her this winter in a specially made shelter. Lizzie has  loved her new accommodation.

Lumpy

Lumpy is new to the Adoption Scheme. He was taken into the care at the request of the RSPCA in August 2003. He was named Lumpy due to the sarcoids that he had and continues to suffer from them. Sarcoids are a form of skin cancer, but it does not spread to other organs. It can be treated, but can reoccur. Lumpy is a very handsome dark bay Thoroughbred who has an eye for the ladies.

Norman

Is a grey shire horse. He is our largest resident here at the Home, standing an enormous 19.1 hands high. He was retired to Bransby from the Bradford Industrial Museum. He loves attention and enjoys trying to find treats in pockets!

News Update

Norman was reunited with Henry his work mate from Bradford Industrial Museum. He has again this winter suffered with itchy legs, so they have had to be clipped and treated regularly.

Rusty

Is a dark chestnut Shetland pony. He was born at the home in 1990. Rusty suffers from a condition known as laminitis. He has a very cheeky nature and enjoys playing with the feed buckets.

News Update

We are continuing to monitor Rusty's laminitis closely and he has settled down well into the laminitic group and their routine.

Sparky

Is a skewbald pony with a black and white mane and a black tail. Abandoned at a slaughterhouse, he came to the Home in 1995. He is very determined and likes things done his way. He also has a reputation for stealing anything he can get hold of and for chasing his field companions, including staff dogs when they are around.

News Update

Sparky has spent much of his time with his friend Angus. He loves his carrots and is always first at carrot time. Despite his age, Sparky has great fun playing with the youngsters.

Twiggy

Twiggy is new to the Adoption Scheme. She came to Bransby in 2002. We were asked to take Twiggy into our care by the local police. She had been foaling at the side of the road, but unfortunately the foal had died. Twiggy is an excellent Mum and often helps with care of the younger ponies. She is currently acting as foster Mum to Lola, the abandoned foal that came to Bransby in December 2006.

Re-adoption News

Everdon - We will be celebrating Everdon's 30th Birthday in November. He spent the summer with the OAP's down at Walklands Farm. We have now found that with his advancing age he needs extra feed all year round.

Kizzy- Due to her advancing age we have decided that it is time to take Kizzy off the Adoption Scheme and she will now be only available for re-adoption. We found that having a shorter turnout helped her to maintain her weight, as she seems happier eating in her stable.
