Adoption Scheme
This Scheme allows us to continue our work of rescuing horses, ponies and donkeys from neglect and cruelty as well as enabling us to provide a home for them for the rest of their lives.
If you would like to help you can adopt one or more of our animals for just £5.00 per animal. You will receive a certificate showing your name and a picture of your adopted animal, which is valid for one year. They make great Birthday and Christmas presents. If you would like to adopt one of our animals please complete the adoption form. Many of our supporters like to adopt a different animal each year. If your adoption has expired and you wish to renew it, please send a minimum of £5.00 for each certificate and tick the renew column. Further renewal forms are available on request.

Cleo
Born in 1996 she came to the home in 2001 as a group of 10 donkeys by request of the RSPCA. She is a very sweet donkey that loves lots of cuddles and attention. She arrived with very overgrown feet that resulted in her having a deformed front foot, which requires regular veterinary and farrier attention.
News Update
Cleo has enjoyed the summer months out in the fields at Walklands farm. She came up to the main yard with her friends for The Donkey Training day where she was impeccably behaved when brushed and handled.
Craigie Boy
Craigie Boy, a 19 year old Thoroughbred bay gelding was taken into care in January 2009 due to a tragic change in his owner’s circumstances. He is a retired racehorse, who won 4 races and was placed 25 times. Craigie Boy is a true gentleman in every way and loves lots of cuddles and affection.
Digit
Digit came to us in April 2006, after he had been in a stable fire. Digit had been tied in the stable and his bedding had been deliberately set alight. He had burns to his legs and underbelly, as well as his mane, tail and eyelashes being singed. He has been left with some scars, but has fully recovered. Despite his ordeal he hasn’t lost his trust in humans and is always up for a cuddle.
News Update
Digit has had a fun summer. He was in training for the pony games demonstration for our June Open Day – he thoroughly enjoyed practising with his groom, unfortunately due to the bad weather the demonstration was cancelled. However we hope to do a re-run on our September Open Day.
Ebony
Is a black female mule that came to us in 2000 at the request of the Police as she was found wandering on a busy road. She suffers from laminitis and sweet itch. She is very cheeky and is always up to something which has earned her the name “Beryl the Peril”News Update
Ebony has had a good summer and is in excellent health. She is now helping around the yard, by levelling the sand area by pulling a tyre connected to her harness. She enjoys the work and this exercise helps her keep trim. The Bridleway tack shop of Dunham-on-Trent kindly donated a new sweet itch rug for Ebony to prevent the flies from bothering her.
Gemma
Gemma, a 21 year old jenny donkey was taken into care in 2003. Her owners asked us to take her into care as they felt she was lonely without the company of other donkeys. Gemma is a very affectionate little donkey.
Jigily
Jigily, a 9 year old Cob gelding came to the home in 2004. His owners who had bred him felt they could no longer care for him when he was diagnosed with Wobbler’s syndrome. Wobbler’s is a neurological condition caused by damage to the spinal cord. This does not seem to cause him any discomfort however it means he can never be ridden. Jigily is a very sociable chap and loves meeting and greeting visitors to the home.
Lizzie
Came to the home in 1991 at the request of the RSPCA, she was very thin on arrival and had to undergo very intensive rehabilitation. She is a bay mare with a black mane and tail. She doesn't live up to her name of “Skinny Lizzie” anymore.
News Update
At the end of spring Lizzie had to come into the stables for veterinary treatment due to a large swelling at the top of her leg. This required regular attention by the vet and a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. She made a complete recovery and was turned into the top fields for the summer with her close friend Bonnie.
Lumpy
Lumpy was taken into the care at the request of the RSPCA in August 2003. He was named Lumpy due to the sarcoids that he had and continues to suffer from them. Sarcoids are a form of skin cancer, but it does not spread to other organs. It can be treated, but can reoccur. Lumpy is a very handsome dark bay Thoroughbred who has an eye for the ladies.
News Update
Lumpy has once again had an eventful few months. After making a full recovery from his leg injury he was found with an injury to his jaw. This required him to be referred to Newmarket vets for further investigation. He was found to have fractured his jaw and required a long course of antibiotic treatment and nursing. We are happy to say he has made a full recovery and has now been turned out in the fields with his friends to enjoy the end of summer.
Mumphy
Mumphy, a 13 year old grey Shire gelding was taken into care in 2009 from a private home. His owners were unable to care for him due to a change in family circumstances. Mumphy is a kind natured gentle giant who likes to gives his groom the run around when trying to catch him in the field.
Sparky
Is a skewbald pony with a black and white mane and a black tail. Abandoned at a slaughterhouse, he came to the Home in 1995. He is very determined and likes things done his way. He also has a reputation for stealing anything he can get hold of and for chasing his field companions, including staff dogs when they are around.News Update
Sparky has spent the summer months in the Johnson’s field with his friends. He is starting to mellow in his old age and is happy sunbathing rather than racing around causing mischief. He loved all the attention he received from the visitors on Open Day.
Twiggy
Twiggy came to Bransby in 2002. We were asked to take Twiggy into our care by the local police. She had been foaling at the side of the road, but unfortunately the foal had died. Twiggy is an excellent Mum and often helps with care of the younger ponies. She is currently acting as foster Mum to Lola, the abandoned foal that came to Bransby in December 2006.
News Update
Twiggy has spent the summer months with the youngster herd down at Walklands farm. She is often seen charging around the fields with her close friend Lola especially when their carer, Sam moves them into a new field.
