Carrot and Spud secure a safe future at Bransby Home of Rest for Horses
Friday 15th January 2010
Photographs of a pair of emaciated horses posted on the Horse and Hound Online Forum by a concerned member of public in early September raised a serious concern over the welfare of two horses in Stamford, Lincolnshire.
Welfare charities and police quickly responded to the concerns, and the horses were removed to Bransby Home of Rest for Horses. The two geldings were nick-named Carrot and Spud by their rescuers and after intensive rehabilitation and dedicated nursing; they have made an amazing recovery back to full health. The photographs below show the pair on arrival and then only four months later with the correct specialist care.

We are happy to report that they have now been signed over to the RSPCA as their owner realised that this was in the best interest of the horses. They have been offered a permanent home at Bransby where they will enjoy the peaceful retirement that they deserve.
Staff at the home are overjoyed with the news, as they have become firm favourites, with everyone amazed at the pairs fighting spirit.
As Carrot and Spud are currently still in our isolation yard, visitors will not yet be able to visit them. However as soon as they receive the all clear from the vets we will let our supporters know on our website.
If you would like to follow Carrot and Spuds full story with photographs, from their arrival at Bransby and their subsequent rehabilitation, through to full recovery, please visit our ‘Contact Us’ webpage and quote ‘Carrot and Spud Brochure’ on the email link. Please note our Spring Brochure is dispatched in April. Donations are welcome towards the cost of rehabilitating Carrot and Spud; these can be made through our Just Giving page on our website or at:

We would like to thank all the hard work from the Horse and Hound forum users and all the charities involved in securing Carrot and Spud a secure and happy future.
