Rescued horses receive festive treat thanks to Lincoln Christmas market visitors
Thursday 24th December 2009
Residents at Bransby Home of Rest for Horses are happily tucking into a welcome festive treat thanks to visitors to the Lincoln Christmas market.
Bransby held a stand at the Lincoln Christmas market at the start of the month, helping to raise funds to keep the horses over the colder months; with over 280 mouths to feed this is the most expensive time of the year for the charity. As well as selling Christmas cards and gifts, visitors were able to adopt a horse, pony or donkey for only £5 a year. Local volunteers made festive horse-shoes and table decorations which proved very popular and are still available to buy at the shop at Bransby.
New for this year we launched a carrot appeal, which enabled supporters to donate money to buy carrots for residents of the home. The appeal raised over £300, which will be used to buy carrots for the horses over the festive period.
Bransby is currently caring for over 280 horses at the home in Lincoln, as well as a further 100 at our second site in Leominster. The charity is also responsible for a further 160 animals placed in private foster homes throughout Lincolnshire and neighbouring counties.
The yards are open throughout the festive period from 10am to 4pm; there is no charge for admission or parking. We would like to wish all our supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thank them for enabling us to continue our work helping horses in need.
