Abandoned Foal Finds Security at Bransby
Wednesday 1st August 2007
A month old bay coloured Shetland foal was found in the early hours of the morning, after a man spotted her trying to suckle from one of his mares. He contacted the RSPCA who asked us to help. Measuring just two and a half feet tall, weighing 17kg and suffering from very bad diarrhoea, but otherwise bright and alert she came to be known as Lola. Despite there being a lot of press coverage, no owner came forward. After 21 days Lola was signed over to Bransby.
She is a very inquisitive little soul and has certainly kept the staff busy with milk feeds being every 2 hours, she has settled in well and is growing up very quickly. She has now been joined by Twiggy, a Shetland mare, who came to us in 2002. Twiggy was found foaling on the side of a road, but unfortunately the foal died. It seemed only natural to put the two together and they have really bonded. Lola had great fun playing in the snow, lots of bouncing and running around. Lola loves attention and is getting plenty from the staff and Twiggy, but is looking forward to the time she'll be able to greet the visitors, as we all are.
